I think the merlot color is really nice, because it looks warm. I am glad it is not a very sterile looking desk because the warm reddish color makes me feel comfortable while using it. But it also looks a bit sophisticated.
The shelf on the back is more useful than I expected.
It has replaced my old desk I used as a child. I especially like the large amount of space on top. It is enough for a laptop in the middle, and open book on the side and a stack of papers on the other side. That is the kind of room you need to write a serious paper. No more storing papers on my lap while writing. There is still room left over after that for a lamp or something else.

The table is built very well. The color is a little more red than I expected. The table works well for me. It is a good buy for the money.

I realize my review will be in direct contrast to the other reviews, but want to warn potential buyers that their desk may be shipped broken. I was excited to be getting this desk today. UPS delivered it in two boxes. The boxes were in perfect shape; however, upon opening the main box I noticed staples sticking out, drawer glides broken off, cracks in the side of the desk and then pulled it up to look at the top and it was cracked. There is no way this could have happened after shipping. I believe some packers knowingly shipped a defective product. I'm allegedly receiving UPS labels to return the desk and then get a refund - I'll let you know how that goes. I will not buy from this company again.
